Get Ready to BioBlitz!
A Fun Intro to Exploring Nature with iNaturalist
Ever wondered what’s living right outside your front door? Curious about that funky mushroom, flashy beetle, or mystery plant you always walk past? Then you’re going to love the iNaturalist BioBlitz!
A BioBlitz is a week‑long nature‑spotting celebration where everyone—from complete beginners to hardcore naturalists—teams up to observe the wild world around us. You snap photos, upload what you find, and together we create a snapshot of local biodiversity. It’s community science at its most fun.
May: Purple Martin Field Trip
Date: May 16th
Time: 10 am
Location: North Meadow Pavilion
Curious about the Purple Martin houses in the north meadow of the park? Join Wells Branch’s very own Purple Martin “Landlords” and local birding experts to learn all about our neighborhood flock! We’ll dive into the fascinating world of these native birds, from identifying them to understanding their habits and migration patterns. You might even get to peek inside the nests to see eggs or newborn hatchlings during a fun “nest check!” Plus, we’ll be flinging crickets into the air for the birds to catch!
We’ll meet at the North Meadow Pavilion at 10 am. If you’re not sure where that is, just park at Mills Pond and follow the trail south until you cross the bridge. The Martin Houses will be right there in the meadow.
A few things to keep in mind: wear long pants (the meadow grass has chiggers!), and be sure to bring a water bottle, hat, and sun protection. Closed-toe shoes are also a good idea.
Everyone is welcome! Kids under 14 must be with an adult. We hope to see you there!
